Walking on Stolen Land: Genocide in Canada
Who's land is this, anyway? This class will examine the past, present, and future of Canada's active participation and complicity in genocide and colonialism. Topics to be examined include:
- the conquest of the continent and the colonial consciousness
- residential schools and policies of outright extermination of indigenous peoples
- land rights, and corporate and governmental theft and desecration of indigenous land and water
- Canada's role in genocide abroad: Iraq, Haiti, the Americas, South Pacific Islands, the Middle East
- Indigenous resistance and the responsibilities and opportunities for non-indigenous resistance
- decolonization and self-determination
