Skill Building for Community Journalism
Members of CFRU, community radio in Guelph, are facilitating a class called
"Skill Building for Community Journalism." This class is open to new and
experienced media folks. Our class meets every second Thursday from 6-7 pm.

We will offer support for an optional hands-on project in the medium of your
choice.
Some topics we can explore are:
- What kinds of media do we know or can we imagine?
- Possibilities of new media
- Interviewing skills: arts and culture, and investigative reporting
- Community outreach through reporting
- Opinion v. fact – managing bias in the stories that we care about and /or that affect us directly
- Reporting across differences – building solidarity or advancing advocacy through reporting. What do media allies look like?
- Combating technophobia – demystifying tech processes
- Tips and tricks: listening skills, grammar for reporting, etc., etc.,
- Building and sustaining collectives
