In Our Own Hands: A four part Porn Drawing and Queer Comic History class

This is a sexy, playful, 4 part situation. You are invited to come draw and play with themes of sex and sexy imagery and learn various histories of queer comics, sex and representational drawing. ALL drawing styles and comfort levels are welcomed with enthusiasm. The content of the course will be trans and queer-centered, and all people of all identities are welcome.

There will be 3 parts to each class: Studio Time (drawing, and other arty stuff) History (including comics to take home) Discussion (of course there will be times when these three things overlap)

We will be looking at, and drawing porn and erotic images, as well as talking about how drawing can turn us on, learning some histories of erotic drawing discussing source material, places to submit erotic drawing to be published, self publishing, and postal sex, as well as other themes, that may emerge as we go on.

You are encouraged to sign up for the entire 4 week course, because they will build on eachother, but showing up for one or two classes is also okay.

This class is an expanded version of a workshop given at McGill?'s Radfrosh, in Montreal this fall, and the 160 Workshop Series in Ottawa June of last year. Both these times that there was a lot more to talk about, look at and draw, when the workshop time was up. And so a class was created.

Facilitator Sarah Mangle's work includes: illustrations for Queersafe zine, the SENSE project manual, Lickety split 4, and 5 as well as t-shirt designs. *Maison de Sexe, *published by Delirium Press. She also writes music (wet nose hero), and writes stories (squirrel grrl). Play Me Like a Toy Piano, part of Pilot Pocket book 2, published by coach house press. Sarah is also the former co host to Audio Smut, CKUT 90.3's show about sex.
