This class will attempt to facilitate ways to physically defend ourselves from people who feel that they have authority over us (ie. cops, security, patriarchical fucks). It will consist of both learning techniques as well as simply fighting eachother. The class will aim to help people learn what they can do when an authority engages them in confrontation. It is hoped that through practicing fighting, attendees will be able to protect themselves and others in their communities.
The class is held in a padded room.
Appropriate clothing should be worn.
Some of the types of things we will be working on are:
-break falls
-rolls (on the ground and over barricades)
-hip throws
-defending against same arm grabs
-defending against opposite arm grabs
-defending against strangling
-defending against "bear hugs" from behind
-defending against someone grabbing your shirt
-defending against over top baton attacks
-defending against baton jabs
-getting through police lines
Each class will start with warm up excersises. Attendees need only participate in that which they feel comfortable with. Most work is done in partners as contact ensures more readiness for real life situations. It is assumed that those attending understand that it is great to challenge authority and assert autonomy.
